58 × 20mm Door Strike Plate Spacers | Latch Alignment Shims
Door Won’t Stay Closed?
A simple door strike plate spacer designed to help your internal door latch catch properly again.
Designed around a 58 × 20mm strike / keeper plate footprint. Please measure your existing plate before ordering.
Improve door-latch alignment by packing the strike plate forwards with a measured spacer shim.
Choose the required thickness, colour and pack size.
If your door closes but does not click shut, the latch may not be reaching the strike plate correctly. This striker plate shim provides a simple way to bring the existing plate closer to the latch without immediately moving it or drilling new fixing holes.
Important fitment note: this is not a universal tubular-latch spacer. It is designed around a strike / keeper plate measuring approximately 58 × 20mm. Latch case length or advertised latch size, such as “80mm tubular latch”, does not by itself determine the size of the strike plate supplied with that latch.

A Quick Fix for a Common Door Problem
Internal doors can gradually stop latching because of slight movement in the frame, loose hinges, paint build-up, normal wear or a strike plate that sits just a little too far back.
This strike plate packing shim sits behind the existing plate and brings it forwards. It may help when the latch is not lining up front-to-back, while avoiding the need to reposition the plate, fill old holes or drill new ones.
Common Signs This May Help
- The door closes but does not click shut.
- The latch does not quite reach the strike plate.
- The door opens again after being pushed closed.
- The latch only catches when you push or pull the door.
- The latch is lining up vertically but the strike plate sits too far back.
- You want to avoid moving the strike plate to a new position.

Check Compatibility Before Ordering
An “80mm tubular latch” describes the latch mechanism / case size, not a universal strike-plate size. Different 80mm latches can be supplied with different keepers. This spacer should be matched to the existing strike plate measurements shown below.
This door alignment spacer is intended to fit behind your existing strike / keeper plate rather than replace it. Please compare the overall plate size, latch opening and fixing positions with the dimension image in this listing before ordering.
- Your existing keeper is approximately 58mm long × 20mm wide.
- The latch opening is not obstructed by the spacer’s 28 × 12mm centre clearance.
- Your fixing screws fall within the two large clearance windows.
- The plate is flat enough for the spacer to sit neatly behind it.
The 58 × 20mm keeper format is used on selected latch and privacy hardware from manufacturers including Dale / Orpheus, SDS and UNION. Compatibility is determined by the actual strike plate fitted to your door, not the brand name alone.
Manufacturers may use more than one strike / keeper design across their ranges. Please do not assume that every Dale, Orpheus, SDS or UNION latch is compatible.
- The latch and strike opening line up vertically.
- The latch is close to catching.
- The strike plate needs bringing closer to the door.
- Your existing keeper matches the 58 × 20mm footprint and openings shown in the listing images.
- Your strike / keeper plate is a different size, even if the latch itself is described as 64mm, 76mm, 80mm or another common size.
- The door has dropped and the latch sits above or below the opening.
- The hinges are loose or damaged.
- The door or frame is swollen, twisted or warped.
- The latch mechanism itself is faulty.
